Next year's Exhibition Chair will be James Gray.
Volunteers will be needed to assist the Exhibition Chair at each of the two monthly meetings. Duties include set-up and take-down of equipment and holding easels, and staffing of the Exhibition Desk. Additionally, one volunteer will operate the Club's computer during digital projections and two will be responsible for walking the print entries from the holding easels to the display easel for critique. If you are interested in participating in this vital Club volunteer opportunity and can make a committment to attend every meeting, please email your interest ASAP to exhibitionchair@yahoo.com!
The first meeting of each month generally features a speaker. The second meeting in each month is devoted to our Photo Exhibition event. Members submit their images at the first meeting in the month which then are reviewed by a professional photographer who is not a Club member. Each month we present a different judge from among the top photographers in Albuquerque. There is no better way to improve your photos than to have an unbiased critique of your work.
While the main value is his/her educational critique, images are also scored by the judge, who awards 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and Honorable Mentions in each of the Groups (Divisions B, A and AA) and Categories (see the Exhibition Rules for an explanation of these terms). Images are scored on a scale of 1 to 5 points each for Composition, Impact and Technical quality, resulting in a cumulative range of points from 3 to 15. Every image that places earns an appropriate ribbon.
New and less experienced members initially enter in the "B" Group. More experienced members exhibit in the "A" Group and the most accomplished present their work in the "AA" Group. The ELCC Exhibition Rules explain how one moves from B to A to AA.
Photographs can be submitted in any combination of these three media: Digital image files for projection, Color prints or Black & White prints. All entries must have been exposed by the entrant. For any image that has been produced using photo-editing software, all major parts of the image, except for a digitally-produced mat, must have been captured by a camera.
A long-standing tradition in photography clubs is a method used to encourage the photographer's creativity and imagination: the "photo assignment". This is typically a topic or subject about which one creates a photograph representing that subject. Assignment topics are generated toward the end of the Club year and one topic for each month in the coming Club year is selected by the membership. These images are judged separately from those in the "Open" category. The list of Assigned categories for the 2011 Club Year is presented at the bottom of this page.
